After a four year hiatus, the Red Bull Rampage came back last fall and turned the sickter up to eleven and blew us all away. This installment of the Red Bull Rampage was set in a new location a few valleys over from the original venue. Big Red Ted and his crew were brought in to construct some man made features (like a 50 + foot chasm gap) to add a little slopestyle flair to the big mountain event. Initially some folks said it was just gonna be another SS event, but obviously those people were not there as this event was nothing short of burly as hell!
If you are into snowboarding, chances are pretty high that you’ve seen "That’s It, That’s All" and were blown away by how epic the helicopter shots were in that film. Well Rampage – The Evolution is right up there as they too were filming from the choppers in Utah using the Gyron. I have never seen such crisp and amazing shots in any mountain bike film to date and I may have seen most of them out there. The angles that Freeride were able to capture using the Chopper with the Gyron from the air and mixing in shots from the ground level puts you the viewer right there in the action! The filming is the next level for MTB event coverage by far!
The opening is Cam McCaul getting rad and then getting his ass handed to him and it set the bar high for the rest of the film. The action is intense and keeps you following eagerly from the time the riders arrive in the dessert to start cutting their lines to the last run of the finals. Lots of great interaction with the riders themselves too as they talk about the event and their own experiences out there in the wild Utah landscape. Some highlights include:-seeing just how much of a nut bar Cam McCaul really is as he cases the 50+ footer twice
-learning that Gee Atherton is more bad ass than you will ever be as he PINS the shit out of everything at the Rampage site.
-if you ever meet Kurt Sorge, stop shake and shake his hand for throwing down the sickest thing I have seen to date-watch the film and you’ll know what I am talking about.
-Brandon Semenuk holds the keys to the future of Freeride and Slopestyle riding and you’ll know why once you watch this. He’s the next level!
